HISTORY

Cancer Care of North Central Washington was started in 1993 by a small group of Cancer survivors and health care professionals who realized that some of the needs of cancer patients in the North Central Washington area were not being met. The first project, aptly named Our House, was to purchase, remodel and furnish a home where cancer patients can stay while undergoing cancer treatments in Wenatchee.

The second undertaking of Cancer Care was to build a new 6 bedroom house as the new home of Our House, which was completed in the spring of 2000. Our House draws patients from all over North Central Washington.

Many patients receive treatment 5 days a week for 6-8 weeks. Some patients drive as far as three hours one way for treatment. The expense and difficulty of traveling these distances sometimes means patients refuse treatment, so the need for affordable accomdations during treatment is a lifesaver for patients.

In addition to providing housing while patients undergo treatment, Cancer Care also provides financial assistance for travel expenses, medical needs purchases, pharmaceutical payment assistance and emergency assistance for other expenses.

Cancer Care also offers nursing scholarships to students at Wenatchee Valley College.
